In spite the fame and good impression that athletes brought to the country, PNoy seems to be ignoring the Philippine Sports on his SONA.

The government usually doesn’t prioritize Philippine Sports as there are many other problems in the country. But definitely, sports have the need to be overseen and reviewed by the president.

Different reactions from players and fans appeared because of the omission of PNoy to the Philippine Sports. “Dismayado syempre. Ang daming magagaling na athlete ng Pilipinas na pwedeng ipanglaban sa ibang bansa pero ‘di nila sinusuportahan. Kahit gaanong kagaling ang mga players kung walang maayos na lugar para sa training at pondo para sa health nila, wala ding mangyayari.” said Angelyn Mesa, 18, a volleyball player in Bulacan State University College of Arts and Letters which is currently experiencing a hard time practicing because of low-budget training.  Some people admitted that they already expected that PNoy will not tackle anything about sports. As a 42 years old PBA fan named Danny Ramos said, “Inaasahan ko na ‘yun. Madaming dapat unahin si Noynoy eh. Pero dapat ‘wag niyang tuluyang kalimutan ‘yun.” (Referring to sports)

Budgets and funds for the Filipino players and retired athletes, modern sports facilities are just some of the things that need support from the government. “Dagdag na budget para sa sports facilities.” said Wewe Castillo, 18, a former table tennis varsity player. Upgrading the old sports facilities in the country will do a lot of help in the preparation of Filipino athletes that will be fighting outside the country. Patrick Garcia, 21, a basketball solid fan said, “Siguro tulong para sa mga dating players. Kasi, nagdala din sila ng karangalan sa bansa kaya dapat pahalagahan din sila.” This proves that retired players are still needed to be value because they once carried the name of the country.

Since President Benigno Aquino III only focuses his State of the Nation Address on his government’s plan for economic growth, education and other important matters, it is clear that the government has no plans for the improvement of Philippine Sports for this year.

The job of an athlete is not an easy thing to do. Financial support will be the biggets help of the government, while, we, Filipinos can show our support by appreciating the sacrifices they are doing to bring medals for the country.
